• Bauerware has an amazing selection of designer cabinet and door hardware, knobs, and pulls. 3888 Noe @17th, SF. Hrs: M-S 10-6.

• Cole Hardware has three stores: 415-753-2653 956 Cole St., 415-777-4400 70 Fourth St., 415-647-8700 3312 Mission St.
• Golden Gate Washer Repair 415-665-5451. Last time (middle '99?) their fees were $35 to diagnose, or $40 flat-fee (!) to come out and repair a washer (plus parts).
• Goodman Lumber 415-285-2800 445 Bayshore Blvd, SF CA 94124. Hrs: M8-8, T-F8-6, S830-6, U930-530. Often has items better-suited to repairing old houses than HD has.

• Home Depot (Serramonte) 650-755-9600 2 Colma Bl, Colma CA. Hrs: 24x7 ret:6a-10p. Offers classes. Home Depot Pro is down the block from it.
• Kim Do Co. Stockton/Bway-Vallejo. Mostly mediocre-quality housewares "junk", but mixed in with that are bargains on (adequate and disposable) tools and wire.
• Palm Broker 415-626-7256 1074 Guerrero/23rd, SF CA. Hrs: W-S11-5,U12-5. Sells palm trees. This is not a bargain place. (Another larger palm store is down along the freeway towards Gilroy.)
• Potrero Gardens 415-861-8220 1201 17th St @Texas, SF CA. Hardware/garden.
• Urban Farmer Store 415-661-2204 2833 Vicente, SF CA. Hardware/garden.
• Window Shop for Victorian windows. Valencia @25th, SF.

• Building Resources 415-285-7814 701 Amador (off 3rd, north of Evans), SF CA. Hrs: 9-4:30 7days. Construction materials recycling.
• Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) 415-561-6890x104. Inexpensive tree-planting in sidewalks. Usually done in batches, a neighborhood at a time.
• SLUG (SF League of Urban Gardeners) 415-285-7584 2088 Oakdale Ave @Industrial, SF CA 94121. Composting, community gardens.
